Before I get into the details of the title of this post, let me say that I already know some of you are going to want to react to what I write with a bit of malice. I’ve taken a little heat for my post ripping Newt Gingrich about his “Party over Principles” stance over on my personal blog, so I fully understand there are folks who feel very passionate about this issue. But let me also say that for every email against my position, there are twenty in support of it.
If you’re one of the few who are angry about all of this, do us a favor and point the fingers in the right direction.
If you haven’t been following the NY23 special election, I highly recommend you go read the scoop on my blog. In short, the GOP establishment took the liberty movement for granted, jumped behind the wrong candidate (a far left, liberal Republican) and expected the base to just fold and follow their pick without complaint.
At first. this all just appeared to be a poorly calculated decision for the beltway thugs who pretend to be the conservative movement. I mean, back when Newt Gingrich endorsed far left liberal Dede Sozzafava in the race, the grassroots movement was hardly paying attention. It wasn’t until about two weeks ago when the rest of the country realized what was going on.
During the past week, many movement conservatives have shown full support for conservative candidate Doug Hoffman in the race. Sarah Palin, Dick Armey, Club for Growth and MANY others have thrown their political weight behind him.
And not just the “players”… the Tea Party Movement has gotten involved in a huge way. Using the internet as vessel, the message of conservative candidate Doug Hoffman has traveled far and wide, and support for him has exploded.
Which left egg on the faces of all the establishment heads who jumped into the liberal Republican camp early on.
Mistakes were made. No doubt about it. But here is where it gets wild. Instead of doing the right thing, Newt Gingrich and crew have dug in their heels and are strongly defending their position.
Damage control was possible about five days ago, but now they’ve lost their chance. There is no turning back. They made the wrong choice. The refused to admit it and join the true base of the movement. And now they’re actually trying to preach to us that more of the same is needed to fix the problems more of the same created.
Bizarre.
All that said, one would think these groups would now keep their mouths shut and try to minimize the damage, right?
Wrong.
The National Republican Congressional Committee remains committed to embattled GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava in the upstate New York House special election, even as many of the party’s top names throw their support to Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.
Two party officials tell POLITICO that the NRCC will continue to air TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman.
Scozzafava, a state assemblywoman who supports gay marriage, abortion rights and has a close relationship with leading labor officials in her region, has been the target of sustained criticism from conservatives who claim she is too liberal for them to support her candidacy.
Not only is the NRCC going to waste donor dollars on a failed candidate with no hope of winning the race, they’re also going to attack the actual conservative in the race!
At this point, the only logical conclusion is that the NRCC (a huge hub of establishment consultants who leech off of donor money) and the rest of the old guard will arm itself for battle and wage war against the grassroots base rather than give it control.
For those in our movement who are saying “we don’t need to wage war against the machine right now”… wake up. The machine is waging war against you.
This is a fight the movement has been itching for. In my opinion, we should confront this machine and do so immediately.
Food for thought.

There are new grass roots groups everywhere…each fighting its own grass fire. How do we unite all of these conservatives so we can stand together and fight the big fire instead of wasting energy and results on a million smoke screens ?
This is the email I sent to Michael Steele regarding the Republican backing of a liberal Republican. We are done supporting a party and from now on will go with the person most qualified.
“Mr Steele, when the Republican party starts endorsing liberal Republicans over conservatives we have a major problem with that. We have far to many republicans in office claiming they are Republicans to get elected when they are nothing more than left wing Democrats. Doug Hoffman is a Conservative independent and Dede Scozzafava is actually more liberal than the Democrat in the race. Sir your lack of leadership and vision is doing nothing more than discrediting the Republican party and its principals. Just because she is a Republican you support her and that sir is suicide for the Republican party. You are not supporting what’s good for the party or the Nation by standing by candidate’s that have questionable conservative views. This seems to be a trend with the Republicans not standing by the core conservative principals of the party. You are talking out of both sides of your mouth and the integrity of the party has been compromised. My wife and I have been lifetime Republicans
until now. Remove our names from the Republican party mailing list as we will no longer support the party.”
A lot of good posts here. Rush made a great point the other day. Remember, this NY 23 race had no primary. That is why a conservative never had a chance to be the candidate. The republican establishment stinks, but if we get involved in our local precinct republican operations, we can make a difference.
I close to 74 - grew up I guess you would call me a Blue Dog Democrat from Kentucky. Went into our military in 1954 and got out in 1965. By that time I have voted for Stevenson, JFK and LBJ but I saw my own party turn against my country. I drifted for a while but finally went over to the GOP with several million other democrats. We changed that party for a while but it has drifted back to the same old crap. They could not/would not work on this immigration issue so I changed to non-aligned. Right now I don’t like eather party and I wish I was voting in New York 23. We need a real political party and even if we loose more seats we need to try to get one going. The GOP just does not hack it…..Difficult to vote with both hands holding my nose.
Jim
Doug Hoffman is no better than Dede. Neither of them care about liberty…. Hoffman is a endorsed by neocon groups. Do you want more neo con sympathizers?
Pardon my English, but screw the parties, the both of them! It’s about time “WE” the “PEOPLE” have a say in things. After all, our reps are hired by us.We pay their salaries, afford them all the perks they well enjoy, etc. etc. etc. and I feel it’s about time they do what they were hired to do! which doesn’t include telling US what to do.Try going into work tomorrow and tell your boss he had better do this or that?! Shee!, you’ll be gone in a moment. So much for those, our supposed reps.I Remain, Lou
The RNC called yesterday for money. I told them I would not send one more dime until they got it right and backed a candidate with principles rather than an ID card from the RNC. I am a registered Democrat simply because I was 21 when I started to vote decades ago. I have stayed a Dem because I am not done messing with them yet. I plan to hit my Democrat Congressman’s local office on NOV.5th as a disgusted registered Democrat.
We just had our state income tax raised to 11%. I sold my business and quit working at my real job in order to stop funding the administration’s march to socialism. I can last years with no income. I hope it will only be 3 years and 3 months more…
Wake up folks, Newt is a member of the CFR. Nuff said.
Newt is an arrogant elitist, just like someone else we know, not as bad but close. He is not for the Republican party but for himself. Trying to set himself up to run. We have quit the Republican party because they are no different than the liberal Democrats. We will go Independent in the future. Good luck to Hoffman. We DID donate to help him win. But, both parties probably run crooked elections. So, it may be a miracle if Hoffman wins. Wonder if we can get someone to watch over this election? Course, if they find ballots in drawers in warehouses and the like, it WOULD take a miracle. Good luck to Hoffman - he is a true conservative and patroit.
If the RNCC and other republicans will not get behind and stand for conservatism then its time to start a full and strong “Conservatist Party” and one of the party slogans should be “We believe in America” Not the United States as that does imply we back our government in their decisions, which we do not!
RE: Lester 10/28/09,
Amen! The Republican party post Reagan has become part of the problem-can hardly tell them apart from the Demo’s. As an independent voter (Liberterian by ideology), I usually voted Republican as the lesser of 2 evils. Not any more- I’m sticking to my principles and voting for those who support my beliefs.
And this is exactly why I left the Republican Party a while back, and refuse to send them ANY money at all. Actually, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, they left me!
We must not falter before the attack of the Judahs.
Take back the Republican Party from the eunichs. We have the road map left us by Ronald Reagan and there aint no rest stop called “Newt”.
How would a left leaning Republican help if she votes with the left? I,m sick of both Parties. Glen Beck is right. It’s hard sometime to tell the difference between Dem’s and Repub’s. It’s time to draw a line in the sand. VOTE the canidate NOT the party.
The GOP better wake up. We are conservatives, & we will accept nothing less than support for true Conservatives. No more compromises! Moderates & liberals need to be purged from the Republican Party…we can & will win without them.
can someone tell me what is wrong with being pro-choice or pro-labor (to some extent) because i feel im a conservative while i see good ideas in both because alot of the labor force still is part of our movement and if my wife would die if not for an abortion than why not have a licensed physican do it not trying to go to the blackmarket in mexico which is where our country is headed one pieace at a time.
Hopefully this will wake many Republican voters up to the fact that the Republican party is not that serious about change. I encourage everyone to do what I and many others have already done: remove your registration with the Republicans. Register as an Independent. Once you have done that, call the local Republican office and tell them what you have done and why you have done it. Tell them you will not donate to the Republican party or listen to any of their advice until you see a marked change in the way they conduct themselves in DC and at the state level.
Don’t go quietly. And don’t be affraid. You can still vote for the Republican candidate if they are conservative enough for you. Let’s get off of the security blanket. Cut the umbilical cord. Whatever you want to call it, just send the message and mean it. They won’t know we are serious until we start taking action by separating ourselves from them.
Do it ! Do it today !
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me ten times, shame on me. How many times do the Republicans get to tell us Jeffersonian Constitutionalists that they are for freedom, liberty and completely support The Declaration of Independence and the dovetail Constitution of the United States only to find out that their actions are, in large measure, opposed to their rhetoric?
After the behaviors of the last Republican Congress I am even beginning to wonder what the term RINO really means anymore? When in the last ten decades has any Republican party rolled back the heinous usurpations that started with the ratification of the non-ratified 16th Amendment by the lying Secretary of State Philanderer Knox and his boss in crime President Woodrow Wilson? Not to mention the Constitutional atrocity of The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 that was passed on either Christmas eve or the day before when Woodrow Wilson held corruptible Congressmen from Christmas break to fulfill his commitment to the owner bankers of the cartel of twelve privately held banks that make up The Federal Reserve “System”, for the endless campaign funds that provided for his election, which allowed the tyrants in the U.S. Congress and several Administrations to borrow us into incremental oblivion and all manner of Constitutional contempt ever since.
Benjamin Franklin once said; “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. “ It should be obvious to all of us now that simply electing Republicans is not the answer to our problems. The answer is in finding a way to ENFORCE THE LAW that we wrote, established and ordained in The Constitution by our individual authority bestowed upon us by our creator. Especially, but not limited to, Article 1 Section 8 as further supported by the 9th and 10th Amendments in The Bill of Rights.
Is it not clear that, according to THE LAW as written in The Constitution, the U.S. Government was ‘borrowed’ certain powers by us, from our authority given to us individually by our creator, to ONLY handle these SEVENTEEN ‘enumerated’ powers for the ‘privilege’ of serving us at and for our convenience? Is it not true that the veracity of this is clearly written in The Declaration of Independence as followed up by the dovetail LAWs as written in The Constitution? When, may I ask, did any Republican serve to reverse any significant numbers of usurpations of authority enacted through these nearly ten decades of tyranny, which have ultimately resulting in the clear display of despotism we see by our current non-representing Representatives and Administration on TV nightly?
It may be true that Democrats are even worse, but for me, I will never ever vote for a Republican again unless he or she promises to completely reverse EVERY SINGLE character of constitutionally contemptuous usurpation in legislation ever drafted.
If the Federal Government were to obey the law, especially but not limited to, Article 1 Section 8, can you imagine how, after about five years of the imminent financial hardship which lies before us due to our unsustainable economy based on pieces of almost worthless paper and ink called FEDERAL RESERVE “NOTES” that are worth 100 cents each only in our minds, when in reality they are worth 2 – 3 cents each, crashing,,, quickly the vast majority of our average common workingmen and women would become relatively wealthy once again in the environment of true liberty and freedom. The potential of what would happen if the LAW was obeyed by our Federal Government is almost too much for the human mind to comprehend. Ask yourself, how fast would we individually recover financially if we were free to keep almost everything we earned rather than Government spending it? Just the thought of all of those Trillions being left in our hands and our economy is utterly mind blowing.
I am totally behind Sarah Palin, I think she is just the very conservative, we need to be president.
Is it possiable to become the NRCC
put some good ole TEAPARTY Concertive in the ranks ?
And I belive we need the flow of info on local Concertives running where ever town city state ect. When the GOP has their metting or betting let them know who we are backing . The republican party can’t make it with out us . They either get with the program ,
this is more than a WAR it’s a take over and taking of our Country Back. Back on our values and liberties they been stomping on
Wake up call !!
Lock Load and Roll
From the outset, I’ve understood that Tea Party stands for PRINCIPLES over PARTY! I’m happy Palin has endorsed as she has and I’m sorry Newt is missing the message from the grassroots. I believe the only way we will reclaim America is by supporting the person(s) who are standing up for Principles rather than blindly following Party. That’s ANY Party. I’ve been a Republican since 1956 when I voted the first time. However, now I’m looking at ALL the candidates to determine the character of each and I’m making decisions on their Principles and supporting on that basis. Over the past years, blindly following party has put the USA into the mess we’re now in… I supported GWB at first and struggled to continue to support him his second time around, but I’m so disappointed in his record and that of the GOP! In the aggregate, Repubs and Dems have turned out to be virtually one and the same. Time now for stalwart AMERICANS to step forward and run; and time for all of us Grassroot Americans to support and ELECT them!
I have been waiting for such a movement at this for a long time! I am proud to have a small part in this and look forward to much change. Even though all change may not be for the better nor all movement forward, I rejoice in the hope and determination I see in the many TEA party movements at large wanting to bring sensible change to the government. I especially agree with Katherine Nixon’s idea of revoking retired politician’s pay. If the government can enact a retroactive tax increase, we can demand a retroactive decrease in a politician’s retiree pay! I intend to contact the NRCC and have them drop my name from their mailing lists until I see they are serious in backing candidates who put the country first. NRCC, can you spell Wig party?
I couldn’t agree more. See the video clip “Newt Gingrich vs Palin, Santorum and Limbaugh” at:
http://newsyoucanbelieve.com/2009/10/25/video-yes-we-can-re-establish-conservatism/
And for Glenn Beck Show today where he addressed this issue here:
http://newsyoucanbelieve.com/2009/10/26/glenn-beck-show-monday-oct-26-2009/
I read these posts and tears come to my eyes..I thought or was beginning to think I was the only one for awhile of my friends that thought this way..I was no longer proud of this country….and was sickened to hear someone apologize for us to the world.NO MORE APOLOGYS..Get these messages out people
Many of the GOP havent listened to the Republican base since REAGAN DRUG THEM TO IT KICKING AND SCREAMING ALL THE WAY! Man I see Reagan in Sarah Palin hope she returns to politics in some form, might not quite be ready for President yet, but she’d make a great one someday!
We are behinf you ..I did not vote lasy time because I did not like either Obama or McCain
Both political parties stink. I think the Republican Party needs to stay in the wildness for quite while. They don’t want us. It time to form a new party to take charge and take our country. Kiss both parties goodbye. We the people are going to take back our country and outlaw these two very evil and corrupt political parties and destroy their monopoly over our lives.
I don’t know much about politics but I doubt that an open break with the Rep party is the way to go. My fear that even thvatro I am with the conser way There are still votes in the Rep party that will help in 10 & 12. We need to start uniting and then we will once more have strength like in the 80s, Not sure how to do this in poilitics but in real life just agreeing with them to get them to shut up so we can continue on our true way works for me most of the time , I just say something like “you are absolity right”: notice I don’t say I agree or what they say is true. Name calling and such rarely gains much support, but now they are searching for something to say & I become a broken record and keep saying they are right etc. Since I am a little bit lazy I don’t need to think or ways to defend my if I need to say something I just repeat what they just said and the circle is complete. They usually just get tired of talking since even their exact word begin to sound wrong to them,
Instead of throwing away fundraising letters for the RNCC, or hanging up on the fundraising callers from RNCC, I write back. The letters/calls usually refer to getting rid of the Liberals like Pelosi/Reid. I remind them that first we should look into the mirror at our own Liberals like Olympia Snowe and Sue Collins. UNTIL you get rid of these Liberals, I will not send one more dime. NEVER, for anyone! I honestly think that if we do this, many of this, change will happen within the RNCC!
I have never given any money to the Republican Party! I prefer to give it to various Conservative Groups that I support.
Katherine Nixon I applaude YOU for your great comments @ 9:59 AM 10/26/09!!
Not only is this war against the GOP establishment, but it is war against all who are working to destroy our Country! Hoorah for standing up and condemning Newt for his backing Scozzafava! He has shown his true colors, along with the GOP establishment. We need to remember who sticks up for the Conservatives, and who does not. Let us stand with the true patriots and continue to be a part of history!
It’s interesting how people are finally realizing that there are very few Republican’s in Congress. There are a number of RINO’s but, few Republicans. And the NRCC seems to be more of the same. Too bad! But, they will be the losers and, unfortunately, they won’t know why! Lets hope the people of New York know the real thing when they see it.
Bring it on NRCC! Bring it on……
Doug needs to win this race so that we all can believe we can take our country back. What can we do from the sidelines to help?
All of the candidates that the GOP is supporting should be handed copies of the applicable Republican Platform to read. Those such as Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Dede Scozzafava (if elected) don’t appear to support the planks on their platforms.
When such “Republicans” regularly vote with the Democrats, what does that accomplish besides taking up a seat that could be occupied by an actual Republican? We can’t kick them out of the party, but the party doesn’t have to support them–financially or otherwise! Why can’t the GOP read the Party Platform, and decide to whether to support a candidate based on how they measure up to what we’re supposed to stand for? Oh–and how about examining their voting record!
Lately, I have been using the return envelope accompanying the GOP’s request for my donations–using it to send them a letter explaining why I will not be sending them a donation!
This whole thing puts a new spin on the quote from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” — “She turned me in to a Newt.”
Newt had is chance with the Contract with America. He didn’t deliver. The power at the federal government is far too important for a “three strikes and you are out” mind set. Recent history shows that the US Citizens haven’t even been tracking the count.
Newt is attempting to align himself with the grass roots, but he let us down already. This is just more evidence of where his true loyalty lies - power.
The progressive movement talked the people into ignoring a candidates personal life. It’s time we look at how well they keep all promises - including marriage.
I have attended one Tea Party Rally in Philadelphia. I must say, I do support your efforts, but am not able to send any financial support right now.
BUT, and i spell it large because, as you have so well stated, the Republican Party has sold it’s soul to the devil. The party calls me regularly for support, and what I tell them is what you have stated over and over again, “Give the party back to the conservative movement and support Real Conservative measures or remove my name from your rolls.” That’s where I’m at, I cannot support the Republican Party unless they, Michael Steels and his coronies get it into their thick skulls, we cannot and will not take the status quo party line as gospel any longer. We need to reclaim the Party of Ronald Reagan and cut spending and big government. Oh, many will say, Reagan had his flaws and such, but who doesn’t, for crying out loud. Bush sold us out, in fact both Bushes sold us out. We haven’t had a real conservative to back since Reagan. I sort of like Rick Santorum, but again, what makes him a conservative? Just because he says so? We need someone we can really get behind on the National Scene, and the question is , Who? Every time we pick out a candidate that “looks good” he or she is in bed with the left. I suppose we have to look deeper into those who make a little noise, but give us someone who not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. That’s an old Christian line we’ve used in the church for years, but it really make sense in this case. When the new year come forth and maybe the markets change, I might me able to support, in fact, I will be able to support the conservative movement, but I have to see the record of the person I support and be able to look him or her in the eye and hear their heart for America, not the “party”. The causes we support must be addressed from a deep seated conviction that we can turn our country around. The next candidate I support must have a God given mandate on them that they can articulate and be passionate about. I’m looking for real passion and if that passion isn’t there, get off the wagon and let’s get someone who feels as passionate as you and I feel.Real American needs to express their passion for what they believe in. If the passion is not there, then what is there? Don’t be fooled by the smooth talk of the so called “anointed one” and numerous other smooth talkers.(Pelosi and her minions)
So, the NRCC thinks they have a winner in liberal Scozzafava? I guess they haven’t really figured out that this whole Tea Party movement is real and not just a bunch of lemmings they can manipulate to toe the party line. So, Gingrich and company, try this on for size: you keep supporting the liberal wing of the Republican Party, and we’ll vote for third-party conservatives. Hope you will enjoy running the Party when you and your ilk are the only ones left in it! Newt and Co. are blowing it - just when the Republicans should be newly resurgent, they have missed the boat and are working hard to guarantee that they completely miss out on any political advantage they *could* gain from a resurgent conservatism….oh, but don’t be surprised, because that gang *never* has supported true Conservatism! I’m just glad to see the People have finally started to see their true colors.
I will not give a dime to anything Republican any time soon. Is it possible to create a Conservative National Republican Convention? Something in the party that spends time and money supporting right thinking Americans. It would be a way to seperate a bit from the establishment and yet not start a party from scratch. I am Just a frustrated red-blooded American thinking outloud.
“United we stand, divided we fall.” Split the right half of the vote two ways and the left wins. We need to pick our battles. Save our fire power for a Republican primary vote. The win is just as sweet, but a primary loss is not the worst outcome.I,m with Newt this time!
The truth is that Republicans (liberal and moderates) are NOT listening to the people and haven’t been for a long time. If you think about it everyone in Congress right now (the majority) are going against the people of this country and ignoring our Constitution. Drew has it right - stop giving Republicans any money and give to the websites mentioned. Take away money - take away power which is exactly what they are trying to hang on to!! They don’t even give a Marxist takeover by this administration a second thought. The fact that they are ignoring it means they are all traitors.
I have thrown away requests from the NRCC for money for the past three years, I am disgusted and will never support the Republican party again. I will join and support the CONSERVATIVE party. Voting for McCain was difficult but the hope was that he wouldn’t live long and Sarah would be president.
Party before values? That is stupid!!! Isn’t that the modus operandi of the DemoRAT party?
I am a Democrat, along with many others involved in this grassroot movement against a corrupt government. Please, rethink your comments about corrupt Republicans should go be Democrats. This kind of thinking is not only divisive, but offensive.
I do not support what the Democratic politicians are doing now. I do not support what Republicans are doing. I believe that since Congress will not endorse term limits, our strength here is in placing term limits on all government elected officials in Washington. Vote out all incumbents. If they are an incumbent, they have to go.
After that, I would hope to get a new Congress to revoke the pay to retired Congressmen and their health insurance. Once the sheltered politicians realize that they have to live in the new world they have created, real changes might come.
I just sent Hoffman one of our flags of the Second American Revolution. It looks like the Betsy Ross flag with a Roman numberal “II” in the center of the 13 stars. They are “Made-in-America” and you can get one at http://www.USRevolution2.com They’re now in all 50 states and spreading from porch to porch. They make a great holiday gift for family, friends and recovering Liberals.
In order to retain our integrity, we MUST get the conservative candidate elected! That’s the best way to send our message that we’re serioius to the beltway!
I don’t live in that district or the state of New York, and I’m willing to donate to the conservative candidate’s campaign. Can you post the details here?
Reply To: Steve Bentley says: October 26, 2009 at 7:29 am
What then, Steve, is your solution? are we to do their bidding and just lie down and vote as THEY tell us? You advise: be careful of what you wish for….ISNT’ THAT WHAT THIS WHOLE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT IS ABOUT? we’ve done their bidding for decades - and look what’s happened to our country as a result! NO! No more! they want a fight? they’ve got it now…I think they assume that we will, as we have in the past, be good little Republicans and vote as they tell us - and continue to send our money to them to spend as they see fit…NO MORE! WE, THE PEOPLE are awake now, and we WILL fight back! we MUST show them that we’re ’sick and tired and are not going to take it anymore!’
It is time for the show down. I am a GOP county committee woman in NJ. NJ has not adopted the GOP platform. Our state chair said it didn’t matter because our gubernatorial candidate isn’t running as a Republican!! The candidate and the state organization are a mess. I have been screaming for a long time about how we have lost our conservative principles, to no avail. The GOP needs a gigantic wake up call and the Tea Party Movement is it!
There is no such thing as a liberal republican…it is a contradiction in terms, actually, an oxymoron. It is time for all Conservatives to unite and take back our nation. Congress is supposed to be comprised of our elected “representatives”, not our “leaders”. I wouldn’t elect any of the weak kneed “ladies” and “gentlemen” to lead the rats out of Hamlin!
How the heck can the NRCC back a candidate that has a platform so out of line with Conservatives and large portions of the Republican base? Have they lost their minds? Really? A candidate that is pro-choice, pro-labor, and pro-gay marriage is definitely not a Republican…well, unless she’s an Arlen Spector Republican, which is not a Republican at all, but a wolf in poorly-made sheep’s clothing.
Revoke her party card, stamp that D after her name, and get behind the real candidate, Doug Hoffman.
