Update: Great - ACORN to Help With the Census

Acording to Fox News volunteers from the group ACORN will be helping with the 2010 Census.

You probably remember this group from last year’s election: they are the ones who were registering dead people and Mickey Mouse.

Yeah….I want them counting the voters to determine representation in Congress. Let’s get the voter fraud group to help. Can you believe this?

A commenter wondered what would happen if he or she refused to answer if an Acorn worker showed up at her door.

Here’s what I found out:

According to Cornell University a $100 fine could be assessed for failure to answer. A $500 fee could be assessed for false answers.

I have a couple of questions about this idea:

First, how would one know if the census taker was an ACORN volunteer? (I doubt they will have on T-shirts with ACORN on it). I guess one could just flat-out ask the person at the door.

I also wonder if a citizen could request a different census taker, not affiliated with ACORN.

I wonder if we would do more harm than good by not answering, since we might not then be included in the count.

Anybody have better information on this subject?
