We MUST stop the Socialized Healthcare Bill

logo

A handful of healthcare bills are beginning to circulate in Washington. Each of these bills are written in a way that will have disastrous results.

From making individual health insurance illegal to placing catastrophic taxes, fees and regulation on small businesses, the administration is attempting to pass legislation that would effectively destroy the fabric of our great country.

Right now one of the most important things you can do is to apply pressure to the Democrats who know full well they shouldn’t vote to support this legislation, but need to make sure we Americans agree with them. Please contact the following Blue Dog Democrats immediately and tell them you can’t afford this. Tell them American can’t afford this!

I guess they don’t publish the emails. MINE IS C.LUCKEY@CSUOHIO.EDU. (from the long winded email up a few . . . )

  2. Chris Luckey says:

Apologies for the long winded message.

  3. Chris Luckey says:

It seems to me many of you have forgotten the right thing to do. This may sound like a silly argument but do we not see ourselves as a Christian Nation? As a nation built on the idea of supporting our citizens, providing the best for all, and a nation built on a system of balanced charity when it’s needed (not when its tax affordable or allows for a tax deduction). When my house was broken into and my family threatened I didn’t worry about the police charging me to see to the safety of my domicile, or the crime scene investigators charging me to take prints which could afford the capture of the culprit. I felt secure in the fact that my country felt it right to afford each of us with the idea of safety and security. An Emergency room is not security! It is a broken bandaid for a severed limb. We need to look at our brothers out there, who may even be our neighbors and friends, who might have fallen on hard times and be able to tell them there is nothing to worry about, our government is the finest in the world, we provide for our brothers, and they provide for us. Its about community NOT Socialism. Please don’t spread that word around cause then we have to negate all the security that has made this country wonderful to be in. Higher taxes or lowered taxes, were pretty lucky to have what we have in the country when you look around. Thank you. I would enjoy any dialog as I have listed my email address.

  4. Steven Rhodes says:

How much are you being paid by the bureaucrats who run the Health Insurance Industry to bankrupt the citizens of the United States?

  5. muleskinner says:

I always new this country was to powerful to be taken down from the outside. This can only be achieved from within. Thanks to our sold out poliltical BITCHES in office from the highest office in the land right on down to locol politicians congradulations you have succeeded in doing what the rest of the world could not. You have prostituted a once great nation for the people into a den of vipers and thieves that only create more laws designed to enslave the very people who elected you! Our politicians steal, murder, rape and enslave us on a daily basis. All of this is done without impunity to them. Then when one of them passes, we as a nation are to mourn our loss! Bullpucky. The fight is over the once Great Nation we new is gone, lost forever!

  6. D. Rawl says:

Some things never change. If you tell a lie long enough and loud enough people think it is true. We had 8 years of George Bush to prove that beyond any doubt. It seems some of you had no problem padding the pockets of the defense contractors and oil companies while George W. ran up a trillion dollar dept. Where was you sense of fincal responsibilty then? All I would ask for is that I get the same health benefits my congressmen have or that they settle for mine. I would certainly have my tax dollars pay for health care than missles, farm subsidities, wall street bailouts, congressional pork projects, etc., etc.

  7. Healthcare and Plasticbags says:

CALIFORNIA MAYORS, NGO AND SPECIAL INTERESTS MEET IN SECLUSSION TO LINK ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES TO BAN PLASTICS TO HEALTH CARE DEBATE!

Read the article but here are some excerpts!

“On Friday, Aug. 29 mayors and councilmembers from 13 coastal California cities gathered at West Marine in Watsonville for a closed-door session on how to eradicate polystyrene containers and single-use plastic bags.”
–elected officials holding closed door sessions with special interest groups that are involved in campaigning like the NGOs in attendance can that be done behind closed doors? If healthcare companies or any company did in CA there would be an outrage like never before!

“We need to link the environmental debate to the health care debate,” said Monning.
–This is a real quote that plastic bags and healthcare needed to be intertwined! How did this come to be?
–Monning is a Democratic Assembly member

“We need to change as people. And this is the debate,”
–But we, the public, were not invited to participate in the debate. Only special interest groups and businesses with political influence interested in taxes and bans were there to frame the debate in seclusion as well as an initiative to tie plastic bag bans to healthcare.
–It should be noted that no study or whitepaper was released by this group only a post meeting quote to intertwine the two in policy approach.

“People have to change more rapidly than they want to.”
–This group released no study and provided no data that was used to determine this policy. It could be said that we, the public, were graded without scientific evidence, without our presence and we, the public were provided a failing grade?

Not that we can’t address the environment and changing habits about reducing use and recycling but this is a process gone astray!

  10. T student says:

I understand all of your concerns. But I’m noticing a lot of hypocritical comments. Saying “Obama is spending far too much money at this time.” Do you not think about what bush put us through. Spending extreme amounts of money on a war that’s going no ware. We took out Saddam and we stayed accomplishing nothing. Leaving the next president with a country that’s already in debt. You can not in your right mind blame all of our debt problems on Obama. If you would do you research and know that we were in extreme debt with china before Obama. I want you all to stop being so brain washed and have your own opinions and not just do what you party tells you. Till then i will see you in colville

  11. sam says:

As a health insurance company, I am pleased with your response and united stand against those who support public plan, and your stance with the insurance companies that give you life. For without us you would all be in the poverty with no health insurance.
So thank you health insurance company!

  12. Daniel says:

The biggest expenses we have are : Defense , Social Security ,Medicare/Medicaid and interest on the debt. The rest , while interesting , are relatively insignificant. So cutting the first three will help the fourth..When we talk about big gov’t spening to much and high taxes these are what we are spending our money on. I don’t see anyone talking about saving here…Not PC enough .

  13. Kevin Smith says:

I can’t understand why the Republican Party hasn’t grasped the fact we need more control over the Air Waves. Currenty AOL is bashing hard working Americans with their onesided articles. They refuse to allow any reporting that doesn’t favor Obama and his policies. It’s time for all Republicans and Americans to cancel AOL and for Americans to have their own Internet provider. Also Cable companies should be held accountable for the content on TV. How about a Boycott day of Time Warner for not showing equal views. If they don’t correct in 2 weeks we should all be prepared to cancel Time Warner. All Republicans should register their cell phone numbers and be on call when we need to Boycott or Protest a given Hate Monger Socialist Company or Union. That is the only way we will ever regain respect.

  15. Luigi Messina says:

The other day as I was driving home from work, I happened to look up and noticed an American Flag flying strong on top of a warehouse building. It was standing all alone against a bright blue sky. It was worn, dirty and torn from weathering. But it still flew strong! I then realized this is now what happened to our once great country. We are worn, torn and dirty. How sad, how very sad. I wonder, will we the American people who know the truth of what is happening in this country fly strong? Will we truly stand up against a corrupt power mad government that is imposing its unjust will upon us? I enlisted in the military during the Viet Nam War, my cousin was shot down over North Viet Nam and his name is on the memorial wall. He died for what he believed in. Just as all my bloodline ancestores fought for what they believed in during the Civil War, World War I, 2 and Korea. We cannot allow our God given rights to be taken away from us. I have always believed in Equal Protection under the law for everyone. But that belief has continually gotten me introuble, berated and chastised. To exercise an American right and to be chastized for it, go figure. We need more organizations like yours, we need more patriots like Glen Beck to boldly inform the inept public who look upon this new leader of ours with starry eyed reverence and awe. How the masses have been decieved! I believe we must pray for our president that God will open his heart and his eyes to make just decisions for the people, by the people, of the people. To get rid of the corrupt banking system of this country and to restore true trust and confidence in our government. God Bless America and restore her to the greatness she once had.
    Luigi Messina

  16. Denise says:

If in fact this long, incomprehensible healthcare reform bill is so good for us why don’t the House and Senate members want it for themselves? It’s high time they should experience for themselves the monstrous things they are doing to We the People! I have long favored term limits and limited government. I have also said for many years that we need to abolish the Fed. It is NOT FEDERAL and there are no reserves. Our country and our rights and liberties under the Constitution are being RIPPED AWAY from every American citizen and their posterity. I have never in this lifetime seen such an arrogant and unrepentant power grab by ANY political party as I’ve seen with the current White House occupant (Obama) and his followers. He has made our great country and the freedoms and liberties so many have fought and died for a JOKE in the eyes of our enemies. Please believe me when I tell you that these people want TOTAL and COMPLETE control over every aspect of your life. It is time that the so-called Silent majority raise ONE, UNIFIED voice for LIBERTY and FREEDOM under the CONSTITUTION. We must vote out every single politician that supports these draconian assaults on our freedoms and liberty NOW!!! I’m very interested in organizing a Tea Party in my home town to coincide with the national Tea Party on 9/12/09. Would appreciate suggestions and contact people. Thanks.

  17. Kitsu says:

I see so many fooled by such foolery as this bill, and it disgusts me. Even my girlfriend believes in it, which makes me really sad. I wish I could vote, but I’m not old enough yet. People need to ignore local news, it’s all liberal run cock and bull. They tell you anything that sounds pretty, and focus on everything that’s irrelevant to the real issues. Apparently, Michael Jackson is far more important than our nations status. People just don’t look for the truth. They’re all lazy. They couldn’t care less what happens to the country that will be going into their child’s hands. In addition to all that, nearly everything Obama promised at presidency, we ALREADY HAD. Healthcare? Medicare/Medical/etc. Opposite sex marriage? It was called Domestic Partnership. But the government loves rewriting Websters and then telling people that it’s always been that way.
America hasn’t been asleep. People have just become lazy, worthless, slugs with no care for anyone but what works for them. I want to see something that helps everyone, but doesn’t put the government in charge. It makes me want to cry when I see them smiling on TV, laughing about what they’re doing. Maniacal. Simply maniacal.

  18. Chris Carter says:

During the Election in 2000 I emailed everyone, but things have changes since then, Most ask for addresses and phone numbers and have web based email. They don’t want to hear from those outside their district. But I have links on my site to the house & senate. You will find everyone there.

  19. Chris Carter says:

I would suggest you use Don’t tread on me. it is of a snake on strips. It is also a war flag,

  20. Amanda says:

It must be protest without any violence. I suggest taping your mouth to symbolize our voices being taken from us. I would also suggest wearing your best outfit, apparently some politicians have a problem with those that aren’t dressed nicely (saw it on a video on glenn beck’s website).

  21. Amanda says:

We are not being listened or being taken seriously. I’ve seen people be called animals, immature, and angry republicans just because they do not agree with the universal health care bill. Our congressman in Indiana, will only let invited people into town hall meetings, and of course the invited are the ones that agree it was stated that he did this in his on words to “control” the situation. 40 people stood with signs across the street, they were called an angry mob. The person that rented his building out to the congressman (Baron Hill) called an cancelled saying it was a “zoo” outside so Baron never came. I’ve seen other town halls where the way people were dressed, because they weren’t “well dressed” was used.

My idea…we should all, everyone that disagrees, protest. Maybe we should all go to a centrally located position and perhaps do it on a weekend or something so that more can attend. But we should all go out and buy really nice suits, borrow one, and be dressed very “elite like”, carry our signs that say what we need to say and tape our mouths shut with duct tape, and perhaps even bind our hands…that would be another statement….that our voices are being silenced. I cannot even go to a town hall meeting, I even voted for Baron Hill, I just think the health care program is going to bankrupt the country.

We are not being taken seriously and if something doesn’t happen fast, that bill is going to pass, because for some reason Obama is pushing to pass it quickly, which also concerns me “haste makes waste.”

Our country is being destroyed from within. What better way to bring a world power to it’s knees than to destroy it’s economy. I am outraged with what our government is doing to destroy this nation. Our country is in distress and we should all stand up in a peaceful way and make it known to our politicians we will not take it anymore. I suggest that for the rest of the month of August and September, everyone flies their flags upside down. That is the sign of our country in distress. Tell everyone you know by calling or emailing them. I leave you with these quotes.

    1. Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servent and a fearful master.
    2. The marvel of all history is the patience with which men and women submit to burdens unnecessarily laid upon them by their governments.

  23. Avis says:

Is there a web site (or a list to copy) to email all the Senators at one time?

  24. Joe says:

I agree that we must be peaceful and respectful as we move forward. Instead of driving your cars and making your presence known at the various state capitals, find out where your local state rep and congressmen live and picket their house. Everyday. And when the police come, clear away slowly but politely. Then return again. And again. If the congressmen/senator isn’t home, their family or neighbors will tell them. If you twitter, send a tweet to all your friends. Post this at every popular You Tube video. Post this everywhere you can. Push it til it is viral. They can choose not to answer phones. But they will not ignore hundreds or thousands of people on their sidewalks, on their streets, etc. They work for us. They can turn off fax machines, but their friends and families have their cell phone numbers and will get through to them. Protest at their houses now. We only have a few weeks.

When they come home for August recess we should have petitions signed to recall these guys for not listening to their constituents!! I just sent this to the black hole in Wa DC to my Legislator and two Senators.
“How much of the new health care package are you going to take for yourself?
Above the law? Better than the voters who must abide by whatever you pass?
When will you personally determine that your are not exempt by law [except by your congressional arrogance].
“…to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate anything but liberty.”
Two hundred years ago congress could possibly get away with usurping rights from the people; not now, you are in the public eye.
We tell you but you do not listen.
    Just who are you representing?
Scrap mandates which congress itself is not obliged to follow.
What are you doing besides spending imaginary money? Are you serving some other group than those who elected you?”

  31. Thomas says:

I have an idea. Let’s locate Canadians who are planning to come over for medical treatments and who have already had medical treatments here to protest against the so called Healthcare Reform. This will embarrass those socialists.

  32. John S. Pumilia says:

We need to have term limits now…but they would let us vote on it…they vote for us…for what they say we want not what WE say we want…Somthings wrong. Why should congress have better health coverages then the’ll give us, we’re paying but they spend it on themselfs first…somethings wrong we need to act now we the people need to stand together…I’m looking for someone to tell me were and how to organize

  33. DIANA SANDOAL says:

We need NOW to start getting the attention of all the Americans that are clueless of what is about to happen to their health care. I work at a large chemical co. & am amazed at how many people are not aware of what governmentt is trying to do to our health care system! We MUST start placing flags on our cars to get people asking why we have flags on our cars & to start showing those politicians that are for this disastrous reform how many people are aware & are against this health care reform. All the tea parties in the Baytown, Houston, Katy, etc., area need to start showing up in different corners of the city with signs every weekend/week, etc. We must be seen (FLAGS) & heard on a daily basis.

Obama was asked on Wednesday night (7/22) if congress/senate would be willing to join the public option plan. His answer was that they are trying to get us the type of plans that they have! I don’t think that any of us can believe him.

Governor John Fleming of Louisiana (fleming.house.gov) has put forth a resolution asking all of those that are for the public option plan to sign up for it. Many Republicans that are NOT for a public option plan have gone ahead and signed up. They feel if a public option plan is good for Americans then it should be good enough for Congres/Senate. Check the site out and see how many Democrats have signed up, if any. They are not willing to put their money where their mouth is. We must DEMAND that if we are to have a public option plan, they MUST join us. In order for them to know what systems to fix and what to fix, they MUST join us in the trenches! If not, we will go down the way of Social Security, Medicare, etc.

Tea Partiers: It is not enough that we meet every so often. We need to be constantly seen & heard. I am willing to put my life on hold to fight for our way of life. We have been complacent too long and our government has ABUSED our trust by our complacency. It will be tiring but we do not have the luxury of meeting every once in a while. We are up against a government that lie through their teeth on a DAILY basis and just don’t care about what the Americans want. WE MUST TAKE AMERICA BACK!

If anyone knows where we can have car flags made, please let me know at dianasandoval@earthlink.net. I will, for now, place an American flag on my car. I really want a flag that says, “TAKE AMERICA BACK!”

WE DON’T HAVE A DAY TO WASTE!

If they get even a foot in the door with this healthcare bill, even a stipped down, “negotiated bi-partisian” version it will eventually turn into a nightmare for us. Ever seen the movie “Logan’s Run”, the “government” made people go into a tunnel at a certain age, never to return. That is the extreme of what it could come to one day. I think we would stop it before it got that far, but these people are about breaking the will, and creating dependance on the government. Rob,

Your post is outstanding. I’m the owner of a small technology firm that employs a staff of 100. My company was stated in 1985.

I’m proud of our accomplishments, but this health care nonsense affects me in several ways.

As an employer: My costs will increase $13k per month. I currently pay 60% of employee coverage only through BCBS.

As a taxpayer: I’m one of those evil successful capitalists that makes more than $1M per year. Under the current House Bill being debated, I will pay the 5.4% surtax. In addition, my taxes are already scheduled to increase as a result of the expiration of the Bush “cuts” recently enacted.

As a patient: I am a cancer survivor. Upon review, I believe that if the currentl health care plan were law, I would not be here to write this post.

I have spoken to several of my friends that own various businesses. Today, I spoke to the owner of a number of local McDonald’s restaurants. He told me that the health care plan would impose costs on his business that exceed his profit. He would be forced to raise his prices across the board, dramatically, just to survive. This is the Obama myth. Not just the so-called “wealthy” would pay additional taxes, everyone will need more money to live since businesses would have to raise the price of everything just to keep the government fat and happy. Insane.

What is not understood is that if we don’t produce a significant profit, we can’t operate. Banks and suppliers won’t extend credit. Insurance companies won’t provide bonding or coverage. And in our business, it’s common for current and prospective customers to review our financial statements to ensure our viability. So we are highly motivated to make money. Problem is, and this is what these liberal freeloaders don’t udnerstand, I can’t draw all of that profit or even a significant portion of it out of the company. We must constantly re-invest in people, facilities, staff training, various capital improvements, etc.. That’s common to virtually every business. But we have to pay taxes on our “paper” profit. The result: we simply can’t get ahead.

So, pass health care you idiots. Then watch all of us small business owners take drastic action to protect our futures. We’ll be letting people go, shrinking our business, cancelling investment. We’ll work over 1/2 of the year for the feds, who have no idea how to manage OUR MONEY.

    WAKE UP!!!

  39. I’ve never liked this government. Not since the moment I understood how it was actually run. Don’t get me wrong, it used to be decent, back when elected officials actually gave a damn about the people who elected them, and we had presidents working their best to better the lives of the American people, or should I say working class. Now we have a president that outwardly seems to not have our best interests at heart, but then again I would be playing the part of the fool, if I believed one man to hold all the power, you need to give all the Senators and HoR their due credit. As far as I can tell, he seemed earnest when saying he wanted to improve this country, and the biggest issues are stemming from earmarks that others are tacking on, wich makes him seem honest, but then he isn’t vetoing anything. I personally trust Obama, but I do not trust democrats or republicans. To be honest, I believe that the American government is truly a Bicameral Dictatorship, wich would beg the question, why I believe Obama to be earnest.. Anyone know where to buy “How to Stage a coup d’état” For Dummies?

  40. Patrick Germond says:

    Dear Editor,
A lot of economic “Greek Tragedies” in the past, have been caused from Government leaders trying to go against the economic laws of nature and common sense.
Case in point take the apocalyptic effects of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, signed June 17, 1930, turning a recession into a Great Depression.
The Tariff law, taxed imports coming into America. Vainly, it tried to make American products cheaper than their competition from other countries. The goal was to “create-or-save” American jobs. The extreme opposite happened, because the rest of the world retaliated with their own tariffs against American goods, as expected by the opponents.
The Government action ended up costing U.S. citizens vast amounts jobs. Worse yet, the rest of the world moved on, doing business amongst itself, while the U.S. turned into a raisin.
Today, Progressives in both parties have used the environmental cause to take control of our lives and to promulgate (force by law) their social engineering delusions. Their latest & greatest fiasco, “Cap&Trade”. Progressives in California have elevated this to sanguine (bloodthirsty) level. Their pretentious argument and experiment has failed with the same methodical predictability, as blowing a hole in the side of a sinking boat to let the water out.
Courts have taken the power to shut down entire towns in the faces of the people, over any exaggerated environmental cause. Remember, the U.S. Timber Industry? It was squeezed out because of the cost of endless litigation. Now, Canada has taken over the market while our U.S. forests’ go up in smoke. (insert you won joke)
The obsession with self-imposed tariffs, like in California, have made the costs to American businesses sky-rocket. Production and competitiveness have been lynched, and they now hang from Al Gore’s shade tree.
The Arab’s pave their streets with gold, while we Americans tie up our industry in red tape, rules, and litigation. Neither party promotes tort reform or free market capitalism. Instead, they sell us universal nightmares under the panic of emergencies they’ve created from their own, ever reaching, grasping, hands.
The reason the Progressive movement of the 1930’s went as far as it did was due to a lot of factors. One, it just needed to be played out so the people could see the end results. Another reason, people didn’t have our level of access to communication and self-education. Basically, they were poor when it came to the facts. We however, have hind sight and history on our side. And, judging by the polls, and to the dismay of both parties, Americans are catching on fast. Facts and common sense can cut through propaganda instantly. Problem is, the Achilles heel of socialism is it rots and stinks in the sunlight.
Besides, a Government that thinks the recession is over because fewer people are Googling “Economic Depression”, needs to be made real small. Government is the problem, not the solution.

Here’s a copy of my response to this “journalist” from Parade Magazine, giving her detestable summary of our fight in a recent article.

    From: Robert Palladino
    Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 10:24 AM
    To: ’sharon_male@parade.com’
    Subject: Comments about “grass-roots” efforts

First, who gave you the right to speak for everyone, regarding your pathetic summary about grass roots efforts to rally against socialized medicine? You are NOT in the healthcare industry, I gather, so your view is as an outsider at best. I do work in the industry, and can assert that what is being proposed will irreversibly damage any progress our system has achieved. Nowhere in the entire world can citizens seek healthcare and receive it almost instantly, whether paying or otherwise. Nowhere in the world has medicine been advanced to the degree of having cancer, diabetes, infectious diseases, etc., cures and treatments either available to all, or on the verge of becoming available. There are no examples on the planet that anyone can use to compare our system to theirs, in terms of effective treatments, timeliness of treatment, and availability of research and agents.

Secondly, with respect to your opinion of grass roots organizations, what would you call the Civil Rights movement of the 60’s? Was that purely a Lobby effort by industries to effectively limit how they could treat American’s? Do you believe that the movement was beneficial to any organization, aside from the intended recipients of the proposed rights? That was one of the biggest grass roots movements of our time, and it certainly had a profound effect on America wouldn’t you agree?

Having been through a few journalism classes in college, I learned enough to easily recognize an amateur writer . Your responsibility as a journalist is to present the facts, as a neutral observer, and if clever enough, slant the story ever so slightly as to convey your own opinion, without actually voicing it. You failed miserably in all respects. Are you such a weak writer, as to only display only your opinion, falling perfectly inline with your disgustingly biased, liberal, discriminating hoods you consider to be your friends? No one gets ahead by being a follower. If you really want to make an impact, why not try investigating and reporting the truth?

The American healthcare “system” as it’s inaccurately portrayed to be, is not a system at all. It is a cohesive network of professionals working together to serve humans’ best interests. The healthcare insurance providers, approximately 1200-1300, do need reform, in my opinion, but to completely dismantle what has been created, is neither good for progress nor patients. If you want to talk about reconstructing an organization for the benefit of all citizens, try starting with the American legal “system”. Tort reform for healthcare should be the major priority, but thanks to their Washington lobby, you can forget about that ever happening. Don’t forget that the majority of Congressmen are lawyers; not exactly something that they would want to change, as it is working well for them. Some fair reporting on that would definitely help.

I can tell from your writing that you don’t care for the truth, only your twisted, perverted view of it. Do you really believe that our government is able to provide everyone with a version of healthcare that would be better than what we currently have? When was the last time you were at the Post Office, or the Healthcare District office, or my personal favorite, the DMV? When you are the rule maker and the last stop, customer service is naturally zero. Less than 5% of us will benefit from this move, and that is only because that group will be FORCED to seek medical attention, by the government I suspect. The proposed reform will benefit millions upon millions of illegal aliens however, just salivating with anticipation of their new found “rights” that all of us will be paying for shortly. Is that something that interests you personally?

The First Amendment was not provided to allow voicing non-facts as if they are facts. It was however a gift to Journalists to be able to report the inner workings of the government as a check on it’s operations, without fear of reprisal. Obviously, you’re interpreting, or reinterpreting those simple words and misconstruing their meaning entirely. How shameful.

Think about what you write and the impact you will have on people’s lives.

    Have a nice day

Hi - I live in San Francisco - very liberal and Pelosi land. I am opposed to increased taxes to subsidize Health Reform. Can someone advise me how I can mobilize within locally or how I can influence Congress? My repeated emails to Boxer, Feinstein and Spiere yield no responses!

  43. Ellen Myers says:

I think it is time for a Constitutional Amendment limiting the time one can serve in the House and/or Senate (combined) to two terms. Maybe this would help to curb the tide of corruption that is so prevalent in Washington and bring Washington back in touch with the everyday issues that the rest of us face. It seems that the longer they stay in Washington, the more oblivious they become with reality! In addition, those who do serve their one or two terms will be covered for health insurance ONLY during their term of service - after that they are on their own or will go onto the public dole that they are trying to put us on. No longer will they receive a pension but will have a small annual contribution made to their personal pension plans only during their time in office - and that would be limited to a small percentage of their salaries and would only be made as a matching contribution (up to that percentage limit). Any raises in salaries will be strictly tied to cost of living increases. I have emailed my Senator, Bill Nelson, about this (who happens to be a Democrat & is not listed as a Blue Dog Democrat). Of course, I have not heard back from him; however, if enough people will email their Senators & Representatives with this same threat, maybe it will begin to hit home with them & maybe - just maybe - they will begin to actually THINK about what they are doing. They really need to have a taste of their own medicine! Any petitions out there for something like this?

  44. Connie Stanex says:

Healthcare Proposal means the end of Medicare.
It will force Senior Citizens into the government program that will ration all care at a time when they will be most in need. This devalues the older members of society. Dick Morris has written a column on this. Why are the Seniors not up in arms? Last round, they joined forces to scream about small changes Bush wanted to make in Medicare. Probably because no one has brought this to their attention. The Magician in the White House has managed to bury this in the thousands of pages of the bill. Seems to me that it is of critical importance to get the word out about this aspect of the bill.

  45. Steven M. Osheyack says:

    Hello,
Below you will find my letter recently sent to President Obama.

    Dear Mr. President,
Today, I read with amazement the comments below in a news article:
“Larry Summers says the number of people searching for the term economic depression on Google is down to normal levels and that this shift shows consumer confidence is higher.”
With all due respect, you have appointed some of the most inept people to serve in government at one of the most critical times in American history. Perhaps the United States should start their own game show called “Family Feud”. Perhaps the late Richard Dawson would announce that the survey says that Americans are now googling U.S Economic Collapse instead.
Mr. Obama, in all seriousness, I am very concerned with the amount of money that is being spent in a time of immense fiscal crisis. I hoped that you would bring transparency to government and as a scholar of the American Constitution, you would respect its’ content. However, I feel as though our government is now being transformed into a government of the banks, by the banks and for the banks.
    Respectfully,
    Steven M. Osheyack

  47. Sharon Snyder says:

I want to congratulate you for being known as a “Blue Dog Democrat”, That implies that you can acturlly think, reason, and use common sense: all of which seam to be rare abilities these days, even in Washington, DC.
Most people have turned into Lemmings and will just follow anyone with a nice voice that makes wonderful (but empty) promises off a cliff. I believe that is how Mr. Obama got elected. Many of the American people seem to be waking up to reality. I do not believe President Obama can hold out enough “carrots” to the voters, “rabbits”, to get re-elected. I wish I knew what to say to encourage you to stick to your convictions requiring financial resposibility until the rest of the country wakes up & replace the Congress men & women with ones who can think and will do what it best for our country. If my utility bills go up, I will have to choose between my house payment and heating my home next winter.
We, the American people, are catching-on to the insanity of the budget with the 4,500 earmarks, the stimulus package which isn’t working, the Cap &Tradel which is going to cost more jobs and make prices go up on EVERYTHING because of the increased cost of utilities, and he insanity of messing with the best health care system in the world. If Mr. Obama’s plans are followed, many people will go into Bankruptcy, and then our country will be bankrupt. My father-in-law taught Banking and Finance at the Wharton school at the University of PA. He foresaw what is happening & said, “No one person should have all the power of being head of the Federal Reserve.” Thank-you for listening. Sharon Snyder, a retired Registered Nurse who appreciates you.

  48. D says:

    I have an idea.

This must stop. The Obama Administration and the Pelosi/Reid Congress will create a crippled American economy littered with welfare recipients, illegal aliens, and those who choose not to contribute to society. Our president prefers to apologize and reduce the noble role America has played in the fight for peace and justice in the world for decades. Our future is at stake!

Politicians EVERYWHERE must know that we CAN mobilize, and that, if motivated WILL mobilize. We must be able to mobilize QUICKLY, PEACEFULLY, and EFFECTIVELY, and with little fanfare that can be used to DIMINISH the effort with biased press reports.

Many friends and colleagues who recognize this danger have asked ME, “What do we do?”. We should all call our Congressmen and Senators, but some have now wised up and do not accept emails from anyone outside their District or State.

    This is my suggestion:

    Monday, August 3, 2009 at 12:00noon CST
DRIVE your car, bus, motorcycle, van, SUV to your nearest State Capital. At NOON CST, PARK YOUR VEHICLE, where ever it is, on the street. Get out, lock your car, and go stand by the side of the road. Truckers and Tow Trucks are especially helpful to participate.

IF you cannot get to your State Capital, drive to your nearest Downtown Metro Area.

DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNSAFE!!! If enough people participate, those on the road next to you will be doing the same thing.

The idea is to show that we can motivate and coordinate in a short time with little notice but with big impact. We want them to know we are watching them and paying attention. Bring a bottle of water and stand by the side of the road and peacefully DO NOTHING for 1 Hour. Perhaps Mr Obama and Ms Pelosi will get the idea of what happens when you tax productive people…they STOP.
