Florida Gov Shuts Down Tea Party

Digg!

Want to protest your government by going to a Tea Party event? DENIED!

Remember this report from our nation’s history?

CNN (Continental News Network) Boston, 1773: The city of Boston canceled a proposed protest over tea taxes today, citing the fear that too many people dressed as Indians would be gathered near the wharves. Organizers expressed sadness over the cancellation, but meekly returned to their homes fearful of upsetting the officers of the Crown. Taxmen breathed a sigh of relief as the tar and feathers were put away not to be used this day.

You don’t remember that pre-revolutionary history? I should say you shouldn’t, because it didn’t happen. But flash forward a few hundred years and you’ll find it is happening today in Cape Coral, Florida where city officials canceled a tax day tea party gathering because they “feel too many people could show-up.”

That’s right, folks, the God-given, long-held American right to assemble and protest the actions of our government has been canceled due to too much popularity of the protest.

And what does it come down to? Money. You see, the city officials want an insurance policy taken out so that organizers can cover any loss that might occur as a result of the rally. And those insurance policies cost hundreds of dollars.

The tea party organizers of Cape Coral, though, aren’t the only ones to find this restriction of their free speech and rights to assemble. Tea party organizers all across the country have begun to find out just how difficult, if not impossible, it is to be “allowed” to exercise their God-given right to speak their minds against government excess and criminality. City governments all across the country are charging fees for “permits,” forcing organizers to pay out huge sums for “insurance policies,” and binding tea party organizers in all sorts of government red tape.

In many instances, organizers are being told that they aren’t “allowed” to hold rallies on government property. Imagine that? We, the taxpayers of the city/state/federal government aren’t “allowed” to gather on property that our own taxes paid for.

And then there are the “permits” required to reserve the day, arrange the police protection, and clean up afterward. Often those “permits” can only be applied for at certain times a year, precluding any spontaneous assembly. Also, these “permits” can be denied with no reason stated quashing at birth any plan to exercise the right of assembly.

Here one might wonder how it is that we so often see those lefties appearing on our TV sets engaging in their many organized protests? Don’t the flotsam and jetsam of the far left seem to have large protests all the time? One might be drawn to imagine that the government is involved in some sort of grand conspiracy to allow those with anti-American sentiment, the moonbats of the left, to march with impunity. But, hold the tinfoil hats, won’t you? Because the wackjobs of anti-war ilk and the shrill, circus acts of the Code Pinkos are expected to cut through the same red tape the tea party organizers have been confronted with. The lefties are just better at it.

You see, contrary to popular conception, the far left has some deep-pocketed backers (your George Soros types, unions and even government funds) and a raft of organizations that do “protests” as a full time job. Their protest marches and rallies are far from spontaneously organized. These groups are thoroughly knowledgeable about the red tape and governmental hoops through which they must jump to carry off a successful protest assembly. After all, the hatemongers of the left are intimately intertwined with city governments all across the country. They understand what needs to be done because, by and large, city officials used to belong to, or belong still to the sorts of groups that plan lefty protests. Your new president is one of them. Being part of government, these leftie protest marchers help write the rules, being intimately associated with government they are quite well informed about what is required and how to get around or satisfy those rules.

But the obstacles are coming as a shock to the average citizens that love this country. For their whole lives peace-loving, work-a-day Americans have taken for granted that there exists the freedom to assemble completely unaware that those rights have been eliminated by stealth regulation by governments all across the land.

And now the folks in Cape Coral, Florida have learned their lesson.

Americans do not have the rights they always thought they did. There is no right to protest government. There is no right to assemble. The people have no rights at all to voice their displeasure. Shut up people. Go home. Nothing to see here. Go quietly back to your IPods and DVDs. Big daddy government will take care of you. The Obemmessiah will decide what’s best for you. Don’t worry your little heads. Oh, and thank you for your payments on April 15th.

Put away the tar and feathers, won’t you? There’s a nice fella.

-Warner Todd Huston

Where is the ACLU?! I thought this is what they live for

  2. Leighann says:

Peace full assembly is not civil disobedience. Why should anyone need insurance for a God given Right? Individuals are responcible for their own actions. Just seems like one more reason we should protest!
I think everyone should still show up and tell the government of the U.S.A. to read The United States Constitution before they say anything else.

My fellow American’s, I am so greatful to see that I am NOT alone! However, with each new day comes more of this “In You Face America” from these pompus bastards on Capitol Hill, infringing on our right’s and our constitution! I am scared yet I am mad as hell! I attended our local TEA Party on March 15th in downtown Cincinnati, OH. It was wonderful! We had a min. of 5000 in attendance!
However, I am to the point that I feel an urgent need to head to Washington? We need to have a major march on DC! I was ready to go like, yesterday! If anyone can set the date & time, please let me know, all of our talking and our rally’s are being totally ignored by these rude ignorant pompus dictators in Washington! We need to take more action! There was the Million Man March? Let’s take out TEA Party to Washington. We need to do this. Please advise ASAP, More & more damage is being done by the hour! They have got to be stopped!
    Thank you.

Cape Coral, the Constitution is on your side and so are we in southern Indiana. It is time to inact term limits for congress or we will continue to see weasels like Dodd, Franke, Feinstein, Boxer dictate this nations policies. Nobody even bothers to run against these guys because they have hijacked and turned their states into “socialist” states already. Look at Massachuttes and how long Ted “Chappaquitic” Kennedy has held his state hostage to his socialist agendas.
Look to 2010 and get these weasels out of office once and for all. By the way I turned ALL my lights on last Saturday’s “earth hour” to celebrate that great American inventor, and all around “over achiever”,Thomas Edison! Even Al Gore, the inventor of the internet, LOL, left his lights on! One word, HYPOCRIT AND SCAM ARTIST. His name is in the same company as Maddoff, as in Made Off with every bodies money.
    Power to the People!

  6. Dawn says:

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is ‘just a Republican/Conservative’ problem!

“When the government’s boot is on your throat, whether it is a left boot or a right boot is of no consequence. “ — Gary Lloyd

    For ‘Conservative David -’

Perhaps the above quote is more appropriate to this forum. I have not seen Mr. Beck’s program and cannot comment on it or him; I mentioned him only in the interests of full disclosure when posting David Frum’s insight.

If this is double-posted, I apologize… my first response seems to have gone missing.

  7. Bob Honiker says:

Jeremy wants to play “go along to get along”!
Jeremy, I don’t like much of what you liberals are doing and want to do. Don’t expect ANY cooperation from me!

  8. Dougie says:

The time is now! The changes being forced down the average Anerican’s throat is going to cause projectile protesting. Words are meant to communicate, oppression will cause more than words, we had better protest loud and clear, I am sick of being in the social group that is taking the brunt of obnoxious protesting from the new social order, reminds me of Germany before the war broke out.

  9. Bob Honiker says:

Show up anyway, how many angry citizens can they arrest?

  10. Dawn says:

    To ‘Conservative David -’

My comment wasn’t about Glen Beck, but quoted a David Frum comment about him. In the interests of full disclosure, I posted the genesis of the quote.

Frankly, I just want to see those motivated to become involved with the ‘tea party movement’ to KNOW THEIR OBJECTIVE(S), and felt the quote made an excellent point.

I have never seen Mr. Beck’s program and am not qualified to comment on it.

  11. Iris says:

    FYI Jeremy
The Tea Party movement is a “revolution” of “We the People”. The movement arose from an inchoate thought that stemmed from watching our government’s fiscal irresponsibility via runaway spending (bailouts, stimulus) and confiscatory higher taxes to cover this incomprehensible spending spree. We are screaming “we’ve had it and we’re not going to take it anymore!”

But the root cause of our discontent is not runaway spending per se but electing unqualified narcissistic people with personal agendas. Qualified elected officials promote public policy that upholds our Constitution (not the constitution of another country or foreign court laws) which in turn limits government reach, advances free markets and encourages individual liberty and personal responsibility.

We have surrendered a proud heritage without a fight and drifted aimlessly for far too long. We’ve lost our identity and political correctness has trumped our dignity which led a state of defeatism.

Jeremy, your true colors are in full view as you attempt to redirect the blame. Why not try something new and refreshing and place the onus where it belongs directly on the shoulders of the present administration’s leftist ideologies and legislation which is being rammed through by a complicit Congress.

The current occupier of the Oval Office garnered only 52% of the vote which means 48% of America’s productive taxpayers have not climbed aboard the socialist train nor will they. Your POTUS does not have a mandate, as erroneously trumpeted by the mainstream media. And if you are interested, Bush won in 2004 by receiving only 51% of the vote, no mandate either.

It is my hope the Tea Party revolution will shake people to their core, help them recover their voice and once again take an active interest in electing qualified people to restore our country’s heritage.

For the future if you wish to contribute please produce content that is encouraging and edifying to the Tea Party movement. Otherwise I will be certain to denounce your trolling ways.

  12. Conservative David says:

The above was directed to “Dawn”, who I expect is very mature and
    well-intended.

  13. Conservative David says:

The current administration is exercising very heavy-handed, albeit objective, tactics to advance their socialist objectives. The conservative taxpayers are entitled to utilize demonstrative techniques to oppose those tactics. Glen Beck is a motivator of the conservative taxpayers and expresses our position very clearly. To suggest he is not representative of our interests is naive, at best.

  14. Msgtmark says:

Isn’t anyone out there intereasted in a Tea Party in the Clearwater area? Never did one, but would like to be there.

  15. Born on july 4 says:

Didn’t those weasels swear to uphold the Constitution.????

  16. Have a Tea Party Anyhow…You have a right! They can’t keep us ALL quiet. We need to EXPOSE these corrupt Politicians for what they are…Good Luck.

  17. D. Gill says:

Jeremy, a liberal complaining about someone smearing Obama? Ha, What has been going on for the past eight years. I will give your “president” the same respect y’all gave George W. We are rapidly–and I stress the word “rapidly”–sinking into socialism. I plan to be present at the tea party in Tyler, Texas!
    D. Gill

  18. Diana in Texas says:

Unfortunately, what’s going on today goes far beyond political parties as American as democrat or republican. Obama’s all about a One World Government. They wouldn’t even see a highly respected Isreali official that came to Washington to tell them of some important news about Iran. They had a spokesman tell him “We don’t want to hear about Iran. We want to hear about a Palisitan state.” Can you believe the nerve of all those closet Muslims? God forbid. Didn’t hear about it on the news either, did we? Had to get it through Hal Lindsey.

  19. Stewart Lamb says:

On the topic of a ‘money corrupt’ congress. I wish our congressmen weren’t even paid a salary (not to mention all the other perks and BS they’re getting out of tax dollars; jacked up living allowances, travel, etc.) Because a TRUE American patriot will represent his state free of charge. Just have his state support him. You only NEED food and shelter. I would do it.

  20. Diana in Texas says:

Ok. We can all have a silent protest. We can stay home and just not SEND IN OUR TAXES! What are they going to do, take away MORE of our rights? Going to a protested protest sounds beautifully 60’s to me and I’m game.

  21. Melanie says:

I’m with you all too! There’s a TEA PARTY in Ft. Lauderdale on April 15th at 5pm in front of the Federal Building, 229 Broward Blvd. If you live in Broward County, please show up, stand up and be heard!

Also some great articles on http://www.TheVoiceMagazine.com exposing what’s going on in our government. Good info to comment on and share with others.

Wake up America - it’s time We the People take back our country!

  22. Deb Speelman says:

We are having a tea party in Fort Myers FL - just over the bridge from Cape Coral - we welcome ALL Cape residents to join our Tea Party. Centennial Park, Downtown Ft Myers April 15th 5-7 pm. Come on over!

  23. Teina says:

I’m with you too! Just show up. If not me, then who? If not now then when? Come rain or shine we will be at the San Jose Tax Tea Party on April 15th. The power is the peoples’. They can do many a thing - our government - but they cannot silence us. Liberty does not come from the government - liberty is given by God.

  24. Kyle in KC says:

Assemble anyway! Dont let ANYONE tell you you cant do this or that. We have a constitution that says we CAN ASSEMBLE and it says nothing about a “permit”.

“Permit? We dont need no steenking permit”

  25. Jeremy says:

I just wish that the conservative, right wing whatever would focus more attention on working to become more bi-partisan to the issues at hand. It seems if its not conservative, its not right, however spending millions on ad campaigns solely for the purpose of slandering our present administration is an acceptable policy, go figure. Think of the image this is sending around the world, it makes us look weak, unstable and on the verge of internal social breakdown. We are turning into a country divided by one thing, the mighty dollar, and who deserves more of it.

  26. ELENA GONZALEZ says:

i’m with you,now or never.I’ll be in a Tea Party in Fort Lauderdale

  27. Steve says:

  28. Steve says:

  29. Tom says:

It looks like Ft. Myers (just across the inlet) is already organizing a sizable gathering.. hopefully that spills over to Cape Coral. Power to the people!

  30. Dawn says:

    From ‘firstamendmentcenter.org:’

“Government officials may not impose restrictions on protests or parades or other lawful assemblies in order to censor a particular viewpoint or because they dislike the content of the message. However, they may impose some limitations on assembly rights by enacting reasonable “time, place and manner” restrictions designed to further legitimate regulatory objectives, such as preventing traffic congestion or prohibiting interference with nearby activities.”

  31. Jeff says:

Look at the big picture fellow Americans, the left wants a voter base they can control, relax immigration laws, provide housing, provide a means to feed them, I.E. welfare, and you have a people that would vote Hitler to POTUS. Alas, they have, our country has elected the one person who has the ability to destroy our country and her people. 2010 needs to be the year America got off it’s ass and started slapping the faces of these morally bankrupt socialist. This year tea parties, next year million taxpayer marches, then social unrest, if we are going to be treated as a third world people, then we start acting like third world people, burning effigies, massive protest on an unprecedented scale, shut down commerce, shut down government offices, finally a total tax revolt with every right minded taxpaying citizen with holding payment to a corrupt governmental entity, the IRS. The time to put up or forever shut up has arrived America.!!

  32. Anthony D. says:

SHOW UP PEOPLE OF CAPE CORAL!!!! Do NOT allow these fools and CRIMINALS to push you into a corner and deny you your INALIENABLE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT!!!!!

Stand tall and be counted. Take to the streets, be peaceful, but BE HEARD!!!

BE MAD AS HELL, AND DO NOT TAKE THIS ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!

  33. anne slattery says:

DON’T LET ANYONE STOP YOUR TEA PARTY !!!! SHOW UP !!! IT IS YOUR RIGHT ! ITS TIME WE GET THESE BUMS OUT OF OFFICE AND REPLACE THEM WITH TRUE PATRIOTS WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE .

WHAT A CONCEPT ! GOD BLESS YOU, CAPE CORAL. YOU ARE NOT ALONE !

I just called the Cape Coral mayors office. His secretary was quite upset with me for some reason. I was very cordial. She transferred my to the attorney’s office where I left a message with Menendez. Ill keep you updated.

  35. Liz says:

We tried to do it their way by applying for a permit, they denied it, now we do it our way. We will be heard.

  36. John says:

Have it any way. Bring video recorders. Record every incident that involves the government silencing peaceful protesters. Do not back down against the lawyers and slice through the red tape. Tell the pompous crowds of elected criminals that we are not going to take it any longer. Take a stand and you will find that the those who brandish badges are on your side. We need to reject the fascism and smite down those who swore to uphold the constitution only to destroy the sacred document. We shall not stand for this, we are not a nation of cowards, we are a nation of leaders and we will not follow these fools to our demise. March anyway but do it in large numbers and in peace, for the dictators will feel the ground rumbling underneath them and know that it is their time to go…

  37. Steve says:

Please help us get the word out. We are posting about the shenanigans in government and the perpetrators, with detailed analysis and links to independent back up. Every American NEEDS to know how thing are, how we got here and WHO is doing it.
Americans need to stand up and demand that their Senators and Representatives do their JOBS honestly.

  38. Aaron says:

    JUST SHOW UP!

It absurd to think I need a permit from the government to protest the very same government. The founders of this country would have laughed at that notion. The difference between a right and a privilege is that if you have a right to do something, you don’t have to ask permission to do it. If you have to get a permit to protest, do you really still have a right to protest? DO NOT OBEY!

  39. Uncle Sammy says:

    Just show up.
    1st Amendment
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

  40. Jon says:

The Tea Party in Cape Coral is on again, thanks to FreedomWorks.

  41. Bill Melville says:

    Jerry,

Click on the state you are from and follow the link and the instructions at the link

  42. Bernadette says:

Fellow Patriots of Coral Gables, FL:

You are cordially invited to any & all events on April 15th in the Lehigh Valley, PA.
If only we could bus you up here a la ACORN to help protest.

There’s no rational reason to be denied your right to assemble and protest.

No matter what, our hearts are with you. Do what you can and never give up.
The Lehigh Valley Tea Party Group

  43. Jerry says:

I’m new to this site, and I’m ready 4 the tea party..Just want to know where and when …..I will be there and pretty confident that I can bring a car load with me!!!! Please let me know!!!!! Lets Do It !!!!

  44. Bill Melville says:

Has this been reported to Fox News? We need to get the media, friendly to our movement, to investigate this infraction against our civil rights.

  45. Gary says:

Time to call their bluff. Peaceful civil disobedience can only make them look foolish if they start harassing or arresting folks. JUST SHOW UP

  46. Elisabeth says:

Who do they think they are? We need to show up anyway. WE pay their wages, WE, like Odom wrote, own government property–they ride on the backs of us. What happened to “We the people…” It is our right as American citizens to assemble, and they are robbing us of that right. And we are letting them. People should be infuriated. The government is getting too powerful, and no one is stopping them. This is our chance to be the watch dog. We are dangerously edging towards losing our constitutional rights. The “city officials” should be kicked out of office for denying the people of Florida their basic rights. It’s just one protest. It’s just one state. Well, what’s next? It’s just one corporate take over. It’s just one tax raise on ammunition. This is getting ugly. I for one will be at the protest.

  47. Andrew says:

Leftists are not afraid to commit civil disobedience; we conservatives also need to learn to take risks to promote our causes. Do you think Cape Coral would arrest thousands of people? Their town would be a national joke - arresting people for protesting government persecution.

  48. Publius says:

When the laws of the crown become unjust it is time to stop obeying them.
The government can no longer be allowed to tax and fee away our freedoms. If we allow them to continue down this path then it is our fault that they are lost.
Do you think that our rebellious Founding Fathers applied for a permit from King George before they freed our country from tyranny? Hell no ! We are being subjugated by a government that makes the crowns tyranny look like a cake walk.
The government has no right to stop these just protests !, but they had better be listening very carefully. It is time to fight for our freedoms by whatever means necessary.

  49. Dawn says:

It would be prudent for all of us to remain focused on our objective. While these are tumultuous times, promoting high emotional reactions, objectivity - not subjectivity - must guide our message.

Writer David Frum summed it up very well with his comment “… the collapse of conservatism as an organized political force, and the rise of conservatism as an alienated cultural sensibility.”

While he made this observation about Fox News entertainer/’reporter’ Glen Beck’s audience draw, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to guard against that mentality.

Let’s do what we do best: get to work.
